Pope John Paul 2nd  today appointed  Bishop Mario Conti as Archbishop of Glasgow.<br>He replaces the vacant seat left by Cardinal Winning who died in June last year. He will officially be installed at a special mass on the 22nd February 2001 in St Andrews Cathedral , Glasgow.   15th Jan 2001

A replica puffer started an historic canal journey, the first time in 70 years. The Wee Spark was built by Jimmy Macfarlane and Arcie Rennie in bowling and is a third size model of a real puffer.
