Caption: The Glasgow Zoo in the East End of the City finally closed today after years of controversy. The gates were padlocked and a sign read Glasgow Zoo Closed for redevelopment. A worker and volunteer made a final plea for the safeguard of the animals by displaying one of her 'friends' Rosie a Tarantula through the padlocked gates.
